Visa For Journalists to Visit Sri Lanka

All Media officials are free to visit Sri Lanka for Journalist purposes and may obtain Journalist Visa upon application from the Embassy of Sri Lanka Abu Dhabi, UAE prior to their arrival in Colombo.

No prior approval of visa is required for journalists from News Media/Print media that are doing news coverage, human interest news pieces, editorials etc.

For media that intends to film documentaries/films are required to fill out the application from the National Film Corporation (NFC)Filming of documentaries and feature films, other than tourism promotional films and wildlife related documentaries, require prior approval by the National Film Corporation (NFC) of Sri Lanka.

Media teams are requested to complete the NFC agreement, and submit it along with the synopsis of the documentary/feature film, itinerary of the media team, filming locations in Sri Lanka to the Embassy at the application for journalist visa well in advance and the Mission will send the same to relevant authorities in Sri Lanka for necessary approval.

Filming of tourism promotional documentaries, or taking part in Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) familiarization tours, are required to fill the “SLTPB Selection Criteria for Journalists/TV crews for FAM tours” form, which is available at the Embassy.

The SLTPB requires at least 30 working days for processing relevant documents prior to the scheduled commencement of the project. Such media teams should also have a ground handling team who will be coordinating the project in Sri Lanka.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS & FEES FOR APPLYING JOURNALIST VISA

Application for Journalist visa. Applications could be obtained from the Consular Section of the Embassy.

Passport, which should have at least 06 months validity period from the date of arrival in Sri Lanka.

Recently taken colour photograph (passport size 4.5c.m.x3.5c.m).

National Film Corporation (NFC) Application for media that intends to film documentaries/films

‘SLTPB Selection Criteria for Journalists/TV Crews for FAM Tours Form’, for journalists filming tourism promotional documentaries, or taking part in Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) familiarization tours.

A letter addressed to the Ambassador of the Embassy of Sri Lanka, Abu Dhabi by the Company/Organization in UAE requesting visa to the person concerned which include purpose of the visit, designation of the applicant etc.

Letter of Invitation by the Sri Lankan Company/Organization to the applicant concerned in UAE, or a letter to the Embassy by the Sri Lankan Company/Organization in respect of the visit.

Visa fee of AED 150.00, SAARC Countries AED 110.00, should be made in cash at the Embassy.
