The Agreement on Promotion and Protection of Investments between Sri Lanka and the UAE was officially signed today – 12th February 2025, at the World Government Summit 2025. The Agreement, finalized after successful negotiations held in Colombo from January 27 to 29, 2025, was signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism of Sri Lanka and the State Minister of Finance of the UAE.
The discussions leading up to the Agreement were conducted in a friendly, cooperative, and constructive manner, resulting in a mutually beneficial framework for future investment opportunities. The Agreement is expected to encourage UAE investors to explore Sri Lanka’s strategic position along the Indian Ocean trade route, making it an attractive destination for investment.
This collaboration comes at a pivotal time as Sri Lanka, under the leadership of President Disanayake, looks to achieve robust economic growth. During his visit to the UAE, President Disanayake, accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism of Sri Lanka, engaged with potential investors to further strengthen economic ties between the two nations.
The signing of this agreement underscores the commitment of both countries to fostering long-term economic cooperation and positioning Sri Lanka as a preferred investment hub.
