The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi, UAE, celebrated the 70th Anniversary of Sri Lanka’s Independence with over 300 invitees in attendance at InterContinental Abu Dhabi on 5th February 2018.
70th Anniversary Celebrations was graced by Her Excellency, Dr. Maitha Salem Al Shamsi, Minister of State of the United Arab Emirates on behalf of the UAE Government along with high-ranking UAE Government officialsfrom Ministries, Departments and authorities including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation, Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization, Ministry of Interior etc,. Representing the diplomatic community based in UAE, more than seventy Ambassadors, Deputy Heads of Mission and diplomatsalong with representatives from the business community in UAE includingChairmen, CEOs, Managers etc., from UAE based high-profile companies travel sector representatives, and Sri Lankan professionals, community representatives and the expatriate community participated.
The event commenced with the reciting of the National Anthem of the UAE followed by the Sri Lankan National Anthem, and His Excellency, SulaimanJiffryMohideen, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the United Arab Emirates addressed the gathering afterwards. The Ambassador elaborated about Sri Lanka’s 70 year journey and highlighted the country’s development in all aspects and specially invitingUAE based investors to invest in Sri Lanka as an investment-friendly-country in the region. The Ambassador also highlighted the cordial relations that exists between UAE and Sri Lanka and wished further strengthening of bilateral relations for years ahead for the mutual benefit of the two countries.
The event was made memorable witha number of colorful dance performances by one of the prominent Sri Lankan dancing groups led by ChandanaWickramasinghe Dancers Guild, which contributed towards an amazing evening to the distinguished invitees.
All invitees were served with a Sri Lankan buffet, which was specially prepared for the reception by the hotel.
