His Excellency President Anura Kumara Dissanayake met with His Highness Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al Ahmad Al Sabah, the Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait, on February 11, 2025. The discussions focused on enhancing bilateral trade relations, expanding investment opportunities, and strengthening cooperation in the tourism sector.

During the meeting, President Dissanayake highlighted Sri Lanka’s current political and financial stability, emphasizing the country’s potential for economic growth and investment. He expressed Sri Lanka’s commitment to fostering stronger trade ties with Kuwait and exploring diversified market opportunities.

The President also extended his gratitude to the State of Kuwait for its continued support, particularly in facilitating Sri Lanka’s engagement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He further acknowledged the significant contribution of the 155,000 Sri Lankan expatriates working in Kuwait, whose remittances amount to approximately USD 700 million annually, playing a vital role in Sri Lanka’s economic resilience.

This high-level engagement marks a significant step in further strengthening the longstanding diplomatic and economic relations between Sri Lanka and Kuwait.
